I would almost put money on the fact that most native St. Louisans feel like St. Louis is “so boring” or that “there’s nothing to do here.” I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve said it myself once or twice. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We are lucky to live in such a vibrant and prideful city! Spring and Summer months are known to bring all the homebodies out of the woodworks and give them a breath of fresh air. I’m here to help bring about your adventurous side by giving you some ideas of things to try this Summer to enjoy this warm weather and sunshine! We all know the basic St. Louis activities—the Zoo, Science Center, visiting the riverfront, or hitting up one of our top-notch museums we have—but how about trying something new that will truly spice up this 2019 Summer for you!?
If you like food, and I’m guessing you do, I would 10/10 recommend hitting up the Sauce Magazine Food Truck Friday held in Tower Grove Park. The event takes place one Friday a month starting in May and ending October. This is a great place for all you foodies out there to test your taste buds and try some of our St. Louisan favorites. Basically, Tower Grove Park loads up with 20+ food trucks that allow you to try whatever goodies they choose to offer for the day. Big name vendors include Guerilla Street Food, Noboleis Winery, Mission Taco Truck, and Urban Chestnut. You can enjoy good drinks, great food, and even better live music on these Fridays! Whether it’s the 76th time you’ve tried Seoul Taco or the first, you will appreciate the fun and friendly atmosphere no matter what.
In case you didn’t know, St. Louis likes its music, and we’re not even too picky about what kind! You can find an assortment of concert series throughout the city during the Summer. Some that our employees have been to and can guarantee you will enjoy are: Faust Park, Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, Streets of St. Charles, and LouFest. These series have been known to bring about local artists for nights of free music and a relaxing time. Check ahead of time to see what kinds of things are permitted, if you will need to bring chairs/blankets to sit on, and enjoy some good tunes!
One often forgotten about restaurant we hold dear here is the Boathouse in Forest Park. The best part about the Boathouse is that it’s not only a restaurant, but it allows you to partake in a number of other activities that are readily accessible to you in Forest Park. Take out a paddleboat on the lake, take a bike ride around the park, or spend a night at the Muny attending a live musical production (there’s free seats, people!). With so many options available to you, you really can’t go wrong spending a day or night in Forest Park and start it out with a nice meal at the Boathouse!
After heading to the Sauce Food Truck Friday in Tower Grove and tasting some of our local brews, your taste buds will leave you searching for more of those tasty beers. Try hitting up one of our many hometown breweries! Some of our favorites are: Anheuser-Busch (obvi, we’re basic), Schlafly Tap Room, and 4 Hands. After enjoying a fun and informative brewery tour, enjoy a nice outdoor patio with classic pub food, too!
St. Louis has the best baseball fans in the nation, haven’t you heard?! And we simply couldn’t be without our incredible hometown Cardinals team! We love and are so proud of our birds that have brought home so many World Series wins; you can’t miss heading to a Cardinals game at least once. The electric atmosphere of a Friday night game in the ballpark or watching it on one of the massive screens inside Ballpark Village right across the street, it’s certainly an experience you won’t want to miss out on. Bonus: If you head to a game right around July 4th, you’ll get to sit back and gaze upon one of the most incredible fireworks displays put on right in Busch Stadium after the game concludes.
There are honestly so many fun activities available to you in the Lou, you can’t go wrong any way you decide to go. From good eats and drinks, to incredible music, and amazing outdoor events, one of these is sure to strike your fancy.
